Dungeons & Dragons: Adventurer’s Gate has been finally announced. This new D&D co-op board game is due for release this year.

The Toy Fair trade show (in London) usually brings us great news, and this year’s show wasn’t the exception.

As Dicebreaker reports, a mockup of a non-final box for “Dungeons & Dragons: Adventurer’s Gate” was on display at distributor Asmodee UK’s stand.

The box cover reads: “your quick start, quick play entry into the world of D&D”. Which could mean that this is a simplified version of the full D&D gaming experience, somewhat like WotC tried to do with their past 1-5 Players Co-Op board games:

Those games, however, were designed following D&D 4th Edition guidelines; for example, the way spellcasting works is very different when compared to 5e.

In 5th Edition we don’t have Encounter nor Daily spells, we use Spell Slots to simplify tracking spells. This new D&D Board Game might change that mechanic entirely when compared with its older brothers.

We also got to discover that there’ll be another board game called “Dungeons & Dragons: Adventure Begins”, to be published by Hasbro.

The name “Adventurer’s Gate” (while similar to “Baldur’s Gate”), is given because this is meant to be a “portal” (gate) for new players to the monsters, magic and heroes fantasy roleplaying games with simplified concepts and a fast gameplay.

The game is best suited for players aged 10+ and can be played with groups of 2-4 players.

Hasbro said that there’s no more public information to be revealed at this time of the year. Let’s hope to hear more from this game soon!

Dungeons & Dragons’ popularity has risen a lot over the last years, this is a great way for WotC to attract new younger players to the full roleplaying experience.

New and specially, younger players are somewhat discouraged to play since there’s a lot of content out there and many books to read, this board game could be a great starting points for many future D&D players and dungeon masters to come!
